For the purpose of this debate, a "Developmental Dictatorship" is defined as a regime that restricts political competition and limits civil liberties in favor of economic modernization and social order. Developmental dictatorships generally maintain market-oriented economies. Examples include, but are not limited to, three of the 'Four Asian Tigers' during their respective periods of growth (South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore), Rwanda under Kagame, etc.
In contrast, a "Democratic Republic" allows greater political freedoms, and their economies may consist of more substantial state-led interventions. Examples include the Philippines, India, South Africa, etc.
